How do I budget for a video?

Best advice: just call us to discuss what you’re thinking about creating! It takes a conversation to uncover some of the most important information we need to create a ballpark budget.  After talking with you, we will give you an estimate based on several factors, including the number of days we will plan to shoot, the number of times we will travel to your destination, and the anticipated length of the finished product.  We know that plans also change in mid-stream, so we’ll tell you up front how to budget if you want to add days of shooting, length to the video, etc.  Our goal is to never surprise you about a budget item! One other piece of advice: when you talk with video production companies, don’t accept a generic budget based on “dollars / minute” of production.  A good production company will want to ask you lots of questions to get to know your institution’s or company’s needs to tailor the budget estimate specifically to you.

Does it take a long time to get a finished product?

Absolutely not!  In fact, we shot, wrote and edited an on-line video in 24 hours for a university that hosted a presidential debate in 2008. That’s where Kim’s skills as a former television news producer really kicked in!  We can produce short, video vignettes for your website with one day of shooting, and 10 days to write, edit and create streaming files. On the other hand, we produce longer, overview videos that require several visits over the course of nine months to capture seasonal views and activities, such as intercollegiate athletics. We will talk with you to give you a specific timetable based on what you want to accomplish.

How many different ways can I distribute my video?

Countless ways!  Our clients send presentations on DVD, stream their videos from their websites, email their video vignettes to prospective students and clients, embed them on social media sites, and place them in interactive campus maps. And, if you design the app, your videos can be viewed  on smart phones. However, we’re not just talking about the “finished product”.  Our scripting process includes transcribing all the interviews we shoot and creating a database of all the visuals we collect.  So, we can provide you, at any time, a quick soundbite from an interview with your president that we did two years ago… it’s the value-added benefit of working with us.

Is it hard to update a video once it’s created?

Not at all.  That’s because we keep all the raw tape and other materials (music, photos, graphics) we used to create your presentations. When you’re ready to open a new building, or add a new capability, we simply update the segments that need changing in a totally seamless fashion.
